VALBONA VALLEY

Valbona has a gorgeous setting on a wide plain surrounded by accursed mountain peaks. The region is best known for its popular hiking trail connecting Valbona to the small village of Theth. The magnificant scenery is bolstered by the friendliness of the locals, who are remarkably hospitable and welcoming to foreigners.

Also known as the 1000 windows, the town of Berat is a UNESCO world heritage. This beautiful old town has a medieval castle, ancient churches and mosques, great museums, the famous old houses set on a steep hillside and an old stone bridge.

This ancient site also forms part of the UNESCO world heritage. This is the most important archeological site in Albania, which is situated in the South. The ruins combined with the natural surroundings make it worth to visit. The Amphitheater, the castle, churches and the Lion’s Gate cover 2500 years of history .

The main port of Albania is situated here and it is located in the shores of the Adriatic sea. Durres is the second largest city of Albania. It’s known for its huge Roman amphitheater.

The city of Gjirokaster is also known as “The city of Stone” which also forms part of the UNESCO World heritage. The castle, one of the biggest in the Balkans is situated on the hilltop overlooking the city. It was built in the 4th Century AD. Here one can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Apollonia, the Odeon Theatre, the church of Saint Mary, ancient statues and mosaic of Illyrian times.

SYRI I KALTER (THE BLUE EYE)

The phenomenal natural wonder of the Blue Eye is also situated in the South of Albania. Here one will be mesmerized by the beauty of the crystal clear blue water. This is a popular tourist attraction, as the clear blue water of the river can be seen from a depth of more than fifty metres. Although the temperature of the water is a mere 10°C even in summer time, some people choose to take a dip into this natural spring even though legally it is not allowed.

KSAMIL

Ksamil is the pearl of the Albanian Riviera and I surely put it as one of the best beach destinations in Europe. Ksamil offers a tropical paradise feeling , having white sandy beaches overlooking the four islands.

HIMARE

Himare is well known with tourists. Its seaside promenade, the tavernas, the traditionally preserved old town built on a hill and crystal clear seas fringed by long white beaches truly invite you to visit. The Albanian riviera has so many heaven beaches that it makes it difficult to choose which one is the best.

LLOGARA

Where the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas meet, begins the journey towards the Llogara National Park. The lush forests of pines and oaks are only the beginning of this “mountain of panoramas,” which is beautifully surrounded by numerous mountain ranges and the majestic Ionian Sea. Located only 40 km southeast of Vlora, the Llogara National Park is one of the most visited natural parks in Albania, home to a rich flora and fauna and some of the most exceptional food in the country. On the lookout you have a full view of the sea and the clouds are so close you could touch them.

OSUMI CANYON PERMET

The Osumi Gorge is a river gorge in southern Albania, near the town of Çorovodë. The river Osum, which passes through the town of Berat, flows through the canyon.

The Osumi river is one of the most spectacular natural attractions of Albania. The gorge is 26 km (16 miles) long, at an altitude of 450 m. They are thought to have been formed 2-3 million years ago by water erosion. During the spring, high water from melting snow makes it possible to explore the whole length of the gorge from the river. Spring is also the best time to view the many waterfalls in the gorges, which thunder from above as explorers pass below on boats. The rapids are Class II, so one does not need prior white-water experience to navigate them. At the end of the summer, when the water is lower, the full length of the gorge is not navigable.

The edges of the gorge have an unusual ecosystem that preserves the greenery on both sides of gorge year-round. Some of the rock formations in the gorge have fanciful names such as the Cathedral, the Eye, and the Demon’s Door.

KORCE

Known as the City of Serenades, Korçë is often thought of as one of Albania’s most beautiful cities. Korçë is a cozy and friendly town which offers various exciting things to do.

One can visit the museums, The Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, charming old bazaar which takes place in a 400 year old area. The Ottoman-style cobblestones are still intact and one can’t help but be transported centuries into the past.

One can take a stroll down the local pedestrian street, Boulevard Shen Gjergji. It’s a beautiful, family-friendly spot that’s lined with several bars and restaurants. It has a very relaxed feel and offers a friendly Balkan charm. At the end of Boulevard Shen Gjergji is the Red Tower, an observation deck where visitors can enjoy unparalleled views of the entire city of Korçë and its surrounding mountains. It’s both awe-inspiring and a little scary.

TETH

Theth is a unique mountain village and easily has the most dramatic setting in Albania. Whether you approach over the mountains on foot from Valbona or by vehicle over the high passes from Shkoder, the journey to Theth is quite incredible.

Both a sprawling village along the valley floor amid an amphitheater of slate-grey mountains, and a national park containing stunning landscapes and excellent hiking routes, Theth is now well on its way to being Albania’s next big thing. Come quickly while Theth retains its incomparable romance and unique charm.

KRUJE

Krujë was also the first capital of the Albanian state during the middle ages, starting in 1190. But the city is best known as the location from which an Albanian nobleman and military commander named Gjergj Kastrioti (better known as Skanderbeg) fought off Ottoman forces from 1443 until his death in 1468. Skanderbeg is revered as a national hero. The quiet, mountainous surroundings; the authentic, Balkan feel; and the lovely, friendly locals make it a true pleasure to explore. The locals are exceptionally proud of their history, heritage, and craftsmanship.

POGRADEC

Located in eastern Albania, along the southwestern shore of Lake Ohrid, is the resort city of Pogradec. The lake straddles the mountainous border between the southwestern part of North Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes. The city is situated in a narrow plain between two mountain ranges.

Pogradec’s appeal is in its natural beauty, which is largely characterized by the alluring, glass-like waters of the lake and the nearby Drilon National Park.

KARABURUN

Karaburun is almost completely surrounded by both the Adriatic Sea to the north and the Ionian Sea to the south. The peninsula experiences a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and generally warm to cool, dry winters. It comprises a rough relief and is dotted with sandy and rocky beaches, sea caves, steep cliffs and several bays amongst them Cave of Haxhi Ali, Cape of Gjuhëz, Bay of Skaloma, Bay of Arushë, Bay of Dafinë, and most notably Bay of Grama, where ships and vessels anchored during classical antiquity.

TREKKING IN THE SNOW

ALBANIAN RIVIERA

There is plenty of reason to come here and explore this magnificent coastline where the Adriatic and Ionian seas meet. One can see traditional villages nestled in isolated bays and golden beaches lapped by turquoise waters.
Palase is the first accessible beach on the Riviera after negotiating the incredible descent through the zigzagging Llogara Pass. Palase is a glorious stretch of white sand which makes it the perfect spot to swim in pristine waters.

The beach at Dhërmi is one of the most famous in Albania, a dazzling strip of white rock several kilometres long that is lapped by deep blue water.
Bunec is a little charmer of a cove which is often overlooked by travellers hurrying towards the bright lights of Saranda. Bunec is quiet and somewhat unusual, with a pebbly white beach divided by a river which runs down from the mountains above. The sunset here is gorgeous, and the beach is a good option for those looking for a bit more comfort while remaining in a pleasingly unspoilt place.

Himare is a sleepy town which is a well-established stop on the tourist trail. This town beach has a unique charm. 4km south of this town one can find Llamani beach, a wide, white stone beach backed by rolling hills and crystal clear water for swimming.

Borsh is the largest unbroken stretch of beach in Albania, 7km-long Borsh is quite a sight as you approach it along the dramatic coastal road. This magical place is a must see!
